PodCamp “unconference” to Stockholm in June

PodCamp Europe is coming to Stockholm 12-13 June. It might be the first unconference, i.e. a conference that is arranged and driven by the participants, to be held in Sweden (?). PodCamp Europe is “a gathering of podcasters, bloggers, and new media professionals & amateurs for two days to share, explore, challenge, and grow our abilities in new media. Learn about audio and video podcasting, blogging, photography, Second Life, Twitter, and all kinds of other new and social media tools.”

Even though I have some other plans for June, I will definitely try to attend this event.

Social networks are selling like hot cakes

The first one to spot a trend here, wins his/her own island in Second Life (no, not really). Last week the publishing house Holtzbrinck bought the German social network StudiVZ. This morning it was announced that Swedish based broadcasting group MTG buys youth community Playahead. And today we can read on journalism.co.uk that Hearst Magazines Digital Media yesterday bought the teen social networking site eCrush with one million monthly unique visitors.

How long can LunarStorm, the #1 Swedish online community stay independent? I give them six months. What do you think?

Sleep with the best in Scandinavia

Can you say no? Several bloggers, including me, have reacted to sexist ads from Radisson SAS hotels. The ads had slogans like “It’s easy to sleep with the best in Scandinavia” and “Can you say no?”, accompanied by photos of a seductive woman on a bed. Now ERK, the ethical board against sexually discriminative advertising, has brought its verdict that these ads are discriminative and insulting to women in general, and therefore breaking the ICC rules for advertising.

In its statement the board says that the ads allude to prostitutes. The ad in question can be seen here.

We will say no

Can you say no? Radisson SAS hotels got mocked last year for having sexist ads with slogans like “It’s easy to sleep with the best in Scandinavia”, accompanied by photos of a seductive woman on a bed.

I actually thought they had cleaned up their act, but this morning they are back with new ads in Dagens Industri with the same seductress. The headline reads “Can you say no?”. Wake up or consumers will actually say no to Radisson SAS.
